Veneers Q & A

What are veneers?

Veneers are a form of cosmetic dentistry that are applied to conceal the visible surface of your teeth. They’re ultra-thin, customized shells molded to fit your set of teeth and improve your smile and confidence. Bristles Family Dentistry offers these shells, made from custom, tooth-colored shades and materials, to enhance the visible features of your teeth, such as:

  • Color
  • Shape
  • Size
  • Length

What types of dental problems do veneers fix?

Under the direction of Dr. Parikh, patients can opt for veneers to fix teeth that are:

  • Discolored (from stains, a root canal treatment, the presence of large resin fillings, or other causes)
  • Worn down
  • Chipped or broken
  • Misaligned, uneven, or irregularly shaped
  • Gapped

What does a dental veneer procedure look like?

Getting a veneer usually requires a few visits to the dentist. During your first visit, Dr. Parikh provides a consultation and treatment planning. She may also need to take X-rays or make impressions of your teeth.

At your next appointment, Dr. Parikh will remove a sliver of your enamel to prepare your teeth for a veneer. If she hasn’t done so already, Dr. Parikh will make a model or impression of your teeth. She’ll then send your teeth impressions to a local lab, which will make the veneer.

Approximately 2-4 weeks later, your dental veneer should be ready, and you’ll return to Dr. Parikh’s office for the application. She’ll trim and adjust the veneer as needed to reach the perfect fit before permanently bonding it to your tooth. She’ll then clean, polish, and etch your teeth to optimize the bonding process. Lastly, Dr. Parikh will apply a special cement, allow it to harden, and polish it to yield your new veneers and a flawless set of teeth.

What are benefits of getting dental veneers?

Veneers offer several benefits that augment the look and feel of your teeth, including:

  • A natural appearance
  • Gum tissue that tolerates porcelain well
  • Stain-resistant, porcelain materials
  • Less extensive shaping prior to the application procedure, as compared to crowns

How long do veneers last?

Veneers typically last 7-15 years. You can then schedule an appointment with Dr. Parikh to have them replaced. Proper care and oral hygiene will foster their longevity.
